PE and Sport Premium for Bude Junior 2016-2017

PE and Sport Premium Grant

Bude Junior received the GOLD mark for the first time this year. This was achievable through the time and importance given to PE through the Sport Premium Grant. High quality PE lessons followed by after school clubs have allowed all children to make progress. Bude Junior strongly believe in the importance of competitive sport. Being part of the Bude Cluster allows us to compete in fifteen sports in a variety of competitions/festivals.

Spending-Academic Year 2016-17

PE and Sport Premium Income:  £9406

Additional Funding From School Budget: £4554

Breakdown of spending

Cover for specialist teachers to be released when PE teaching and training staff: £13060

Other spending:-

Purchase of equipment sports equipment £500

Purchase of Gym Equipment (money raised through club fees and sponsorship)

Sports Kit (sponsorship)

Travel to competitions (parental contributions)

Membership of Budehaven Cluster Group: £400

 

Impact of PE Spending

High quality specialist coaching for all children led by PE trained teachers

In house support and training for all staff by trained teachers

TAs being upskilled during lessons

Planning (from Arena SOW) used and adapted

Success in sporting competitions due to high quality coaching particularly in football, rugby, netball, gymnastics, cricket and hockey

Sports Relief week – a whole week of sporting challenge planned by the pupils resulting in over £1000 being raised.

Sustainability

First PE session taken by specialist teacher with TA support. The second session will be taken by class teachers to ensure staff skills are kept up to date. The specialist teachers will be expected to upskill teachers as and when needed. All sessions taken by the teachers will be supported by the class TA so they are upskilled. Planning will be taken from Arena Schemes of Work and adapted by the teachers.

Climbing – Wednesday afternoons

Adventure Learning – 3 days of outdoor activities for 80 children

Riding for the Disabled – Wednesday afternoons

Extra Swimming, for those pupils who were unsuccessful during class sessions (Pupil Premium)

 

Plans for 2017/2018

Employ one specialist sports coach to cover one PE session per class. This will ensure progression from Year 3 to Year 6.The second session will be taken by class teachers to ensure staff skills are kept up to date. The specialist coach will be expected to upskill teachers as and when needed. All sessions taken by the coach will be supported by the class TA so they are upskilled. Planning will be taken from Arena Schemes of Work and adapted by the coach. Extra after schools clubs being run by the sports coach which will allow all children to access a club ( to address the problem of not enough clubs for all children. Years 3/4 need particular targeting.
