Learning at Bude Junior School

At Bude Junior there is a clear vision and purpose of what we are learning and why we are learning it. Each child is encouraged to identify ways in which their own learning can be improved and the children support each other constructively as they recognise the learning that their peers have made too.

Teachers also encourage each individual child to develop in their learning through regular feedback ensuring the children are clear with the next steps in their learning whilst summative assessments in writing, reading and maths also help to develop our picture of them.

“…teachers plan exciting and purposeful activities that motivate pupils and help them learn well. Pupils respond quickly to adults’ instructions which means that little learning time is wasted.” OFSTED Report, 2014

Bude Junior School follows the National Curriculum which is a set of subjects and standards used by primary and secondary schools. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subject. The National Curriculum is organised into blocks of years called ‘key stages’ (KS). All learning at Bude Junior is within Key Stage 2 (KS2). At the end of each key stage, each child will be formally assessed to measure their progress.
